Chapter II : Marital Property
Section 1.
Definition.
Marital property is that which is acquired during the
marriage except for gifts and inheritances unless otherwise provided by this
Code. The marital property is
liable for the debts contracted during the marriage by either spouse.
Section 2.
Separate property.
The separate property of each spouse is anything that
she or he owned prior to the marriage and separate gifts and inheritances
acquired during the marriage. The
separate property of either spouse is not liable for the debts of the other
spouse.
Section 3.
Termination of marital property.
Marital property shall cease to be acquired upon the filing of a petition for divorce by either party, provided the petition leads to the dissolution of the marriage.
