Prairie Island Land The Prairie Island Indian Community reservation is located near the southeast end of Prairie Island, in Goodhue County, Minnesota. Prairie Island is located within the Mississippi River Valley between the towns of Hastings and Red Wing, on the eastern border of Minnesota. The reservation is surrounded by rivers, lakes, and wetlands and is underlain by surficial and buried aquifers. More than three-quarters of Prairie Island is less than 25 feet above the Mississippi River. The Mississippi River Valley in this area is 1-3 miles wide and bounded on each side by 360 foot limestone and sandstone bluffs. |
