Water & Wastewater

Prairie Island Indian Community’s water and sanitary sewer systems are classified as utility infrastructure. Utility infrastructure is the fundamental physical foundation of a community. It includes utility equipment such as the community’s water wells, water mains, pipes and elevated towers, sanitary sewers, wastewater treatment plant and its lift stations.

Maintaining this infrastructure is an ongoing process. Old and worn equipment must be replaced to ensure a high level of utility service at the lowest possible cost.

Utility fees, not property taxes, generally cover the cost of maintaining a community’s utility infrastructure. Treasure Island Casino Operations and Indian Health Services pay for costs for ongoing repairs and updates to the entire utility system.
